- (AX-ih-TIH-nib) A substance being studied in the treatment of some types of cancer. Axitinib blocks growth factor receptors and may prevent the growth of new blood vessels needed for tumors to grow. It is a type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor and angiogenesis inhibitor.
