- (Abbreviation: EDTA). A chelating compound. Used to keep nutrients, such as iron, bound in a soluble form that leaves them still available to the plant cells in vitro. Also a potent inhibitor of DNase activity and therefore used as an additive for long-term storage of dissolved DNA.
