- Suggested by the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial ten year study and the American Diabetes Association as an important way to delay the onset and dramatically slow the progression of complications from diabetes. Intensive insulin therapy for management consisting of strict monitoring of blood glucose levels to keep as close to normal by multiple daily insulin injections, a lifestyle change, exercise and healthier eating. Tight control significantly increases the danger of serious hypoglycemic reactions, and is not recommended for everyone.
