- A cation bound to an organic molecule through electron pair donation from nitrogen and/or oxygen atoms in its structure. Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid is a typical and frequently employed chelating agent. Soluble chelates can supply plants with micronutrients which would otherwise be unavailable because of precipitation.
