Diabetes

(First and Second generation Sulfonylureas; Biguanides) Usage by Type II diabetics to lower blood glucose, but they are not insulin pills . Insulin is a protein and can't be taken orally because it would be broken down in the digestive tact, and destroyed before becoming effective. Oral medications treating hyperglycemia in non-insulin dependent diabetics increases the release of endogenous insulin as well as improve its peripheral effectiveness. Biguanides may cause lactic acidosis build up.
