A topological overlay procedure which determines the spatial coincidence of points and polygons. Points are assigned the attributes of the polygons within which they fall.

A spatial operation in which points from one coverage are overlaid with a polygonal coverage to determine which points fall within the polygon boundaries. Points assume the attributes of the polygons within which they fall.
