Sulfur dioxide (SO₂) (SO2)

SO2 is a key pollutant in the formation of acid rain and contributes to the formation of fine particles that are associated with significant negative health effects and regional haze.

A gas formed from burning fossil fuels, notably from coal-fired power plants. Sulfur dioxide is one of the six criteria air pollutants specified under Title I of the Clean Air Act.
