Wicket
Maritime
A rectangular, heavily constructed slab of wood and steel hinged in a counter-balance way so as to be lying flat on the river bed when down, and when raised will be held upright by the pressure of the water. These wickets are placed in a parallel line across the river and when all are in a raised position, they form a wall of dam, thus backing up the water and raising it to the pool level.
