An important class of lymphocytes that mature in bone marrow (in mammals) and the Bursa of Fabricius (in birds) and produce antibodies. Largely responsible for the antibody-mediated or humoral immune response, giving rise to the antibody-producing plasma cells and some other cells of the immune system. Synonym: B lymphocyte.

(... sel loo-KEE-mee-uh/lim-FOH-muh 2 PROH-teen) A protein that helps control whether a cell lives or dies by blocking a type of cell death called apoptosis. The gene for the B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 protein is found on chromosome 18, and transfer of the B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 gene to a different chromosome is seen in many B-cell leukemias and lymphomas. This causes the B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 protein to be made in larger amounts, which may keep cancer cells from dying. Also called BCL2.

(â¦lim-FOH-muh) A type of cancer that forms in B cells (a type of immune system cell). B-cell lymphomas usually occur in adults and may be either indolent (slow-growing) or aggressive (fast-growing). There are many different types of B-cell lymphomas, and prognosis and treatment depend on the type and stage of cancer.

An MPEG video frame type that provides bidirectional interframe compression. Note: A b frame derives its content from the closest 1 or P frame, one in the past and one in the future. Generating b frames requires greater computing power than does generating 1 or P frames. The use of b frames enables compression ratios of 200:1. Robust MPEG encoders employ a combination of b, 1, and P frame encoding. [After Silicon]
