Surgical site infection rates per 100 operative procedures are found by dividing the number of SSIs by the number of total number of specific operative procedures within a given reporting period. The results are then multiplied by 100. These calculations are performed separately for each type of surgical procedure. They are listed by risk index (see definition, below). (Standardized infection ratios can also be calculated.
