alias
Common Legal Terms
Called by another name.
An email address representing another address that only forwards received mail to another address or group of addresses. For example, if your email address is you@yourDomain.com and you wanted to make an account for purchases without actually having separate inboxes to check, simply create the email Alias purchases@yourdomain.com and the mail for purchases will be redirected to your original mailbox.
Lotus Domino
A shortened form of a user name that can be used in any Notes application where directory lookup and type-ahead are supported, such as Mail. Unlike the Notes user name and alternate name, aliases cannot appear in access control lists and execution control lists.

Microsoft Exchange 5.5
Typically a shortened version of the mailbox owner's name, used to address messages. [Exchange 5.5]
Perl
A nickname for something, which behaves in all ways as though you'd used the original name instead of the nickname. Temporary aliases are implicitly created in the loop variable for foreach loops, in the $_ variable for map or grep operators, in $a and $b during sort's comparison function, and in each element of @_ for the "actual arguments" of a subroutine call. Permanent aliases are explicitly created in packages by importing symbols or by assignment to typeglobs. Lexically scoped aliases for package variables are explicitly created by the our declaration.
