DBS

Direct Broadcast Satellite. 73

Abbreviation for direct broadcast satellite. The technology of rebroadcasting digital signals, via geosynchronous communications satellites, directly to the consumer; DBS technology allows consumers situated over a relatively large footprint to receive broadcasts (which, for all practical purposes, are now always digitally encoded) by using a small-aperture dish antenna.
