In terms of cosmology, a scientific model is a theory which describes the evolution and structure of the universe both geometrically and mathematically. There are three primary models of the universe. The first describes a universe with unceasing accelerating expansion. This is the only model that appears to be correct. The second describes a universe that at first expands, but then contracts, collapsing in on itself. The last model describes a universe with constant, non-accelerating expansion. 1100900

Food Biotechnology
1. A mathematical description of a biological phenomenon. 2. A simplified biological system used to test hypotheses (e.g. Arabidopsis thaliana as a model plant).
Nuclear Physics
A schematic description of a system, theory, or phenomenon that accounts for its known or inferred properties and may be used for further study of its characteristics
Climate Change
A simplified representation of a physical process.

GIS
A representation of reality used to simulate a process, understand a situation, predict an outcome, or analyze a problem. A model is structured as a set of rules and procedures, including spatial modeling tools available in a geographic information system (GIS). See also spatial modeling, data model, analysis and spatial analysis.

Biometrics
A representation used to characterize an individual. Behavioralbased biometric systems, because of the inherently dynamic characteristics, use models rather than static templates. See also template.
