Privilege against self-incrimination
Criminal Law
Also know as the right to remain silent, the privilege against self-incrimination is contained in the Fifth Amendment. The privilege may be invoked in a variety of situations. It is most frequently invoked at the police station, before the grand jury, in the field following an arrest, or at trial. The privilege against self-incrimination allows a person to remain silent in the face of accusation or questioning by government agents.
