VSC (Volume Shadow Copy) service

A service implemented in Windows Server 2003 and supported by Exchange Server 2003. With this service, a mirrored copy of the database exists at any time and can be used for purposes of restore, thereby providing near-instantaneous backup and restore. [Exchange 2003]
