string

A series of alphanumeric characters of any length enclosed by quotes.

An instance of the String class. Strings consist of zero or more Unicode characters, and they are immutable, once created. A literal string is written between a pair of string delimiters ("), as in

 "hello, world" 

A sequence of characters such as "He said !@#*&%@#*?!". A string does not have to be entirely printable.

A sequence of data elements, such as bits or characters, considered as a whole.
