Wavelength
Astronomy
The distance between one peak or crest of a wave (of light, heat, or other energy) and the next corresponding peak or crest. Wavelengths of light from the Sun range from radio waves to gamma rays.

Astrophysics
Usually designated by Lambda. This is the geometrical measurement of one complete oscillation, or period of any wave. For visible light this is on the order of 500 nanometers. Graphically, a wavelength is usually one cycle (up and down) of a sine wave.

Energy
Weather
Distance between crests or troughs of a wave.
Defense
The distance between two points having the same phase in two consecutive cycles of a periodic wave, along a line in the direction of propagation.
Telecommunications
The distance between points of corresponding phase of two consecutive cycles of a wave. Note: The wavelength, λ, is related to the propagation velocity, v, and the frequency, f, by λ = v/f.
