All EC2 instances are assigned two IP addresses at launch, which are directly mapped to each other through network address translation (NAT): a private IP address (following RFC 1918) and a public IP address. Instances launched in a VPC are assigned only a private IP address. Instances launched in your default VPC are assigned both a private IP address and a public IP address.

Java

An Internet Protocol (IP) address for a networked computer. Currently, IP addresses consist of four byte values, written in dotted decimal notation, such as 129.12.0.1. In future, IP addresses will be sixteen bytes long to accommodate the expansion in the number of networked computers.

Internet Protocol Address. Every computer connected to the internet has an IP address. Some websites and servers have unique IP addresses, but most web hosts host multiple websites on a single host. Many SEOs refer to unique C class IP addresses. Every site is hosted on a numerical address like aa.bb.cc.dd. In some cases many sites are hosted on the same IP address. It is believed by many SEOs that if links come from different IP ranges with a different number somewhere in the aa.bb.cc part then the link may count more than links from the same local range and host. IP delivery (see cloaking)

IP Address stands for "Internet Protocol Address" and is sometimes referred to as "IP" or "Internet Address". It is expressed as a four-part series of numbers separated by periods that identifies every sender and receiver of network data. The numbers represent the domain, the network, the subnetwork and the host computer. For example: 127.0.0.10 with each number ranging from 0 through to 255. Each server or device connected to the Internet is assigned a unique permanent (static) or temporary (dynamic) IP address. The IP Address sometimes translates into a specific domain name.

Security

An IP address is a unique number for a computer that is used to determine where messages transmitted on the Internet should be delivered. The IP address is analogous to a house number for ordinary postal mail.

Technology

Storage

The unique numerical address of a computer that is attached to a TCP/IP network, for example, 198.95.226.66.

A device's or resource's numerical address as expressed in the format specified in the Internet Protocol. Note 1: In the current addressing format, IP version 4 (IPv4), an IP address is a 32-bit sequence divided into four groups of decimal numbers separated by periods ("dots"), commonly referred to as "dotted decimals." The IP address of a device is made up of two parts: the number of the network to which it is connected, and a sequence representing the specific device within that network. An IP address may be used on private intranets, as well as The Internet. Note 2: Due to inefficiencies that have arisen in address assignment, available IPv4 addresses are nearly exhausted. A newer version of IP addressing (IP version 6, consisting of a 128-bit numerical sequence) is currently being developed. Synonyms Internet address, IP number.
