Of DNA, the reforming of two complementary molecules into a double-stranded structure, following heat or chemical induction of dissociation (denaturation). Of protein, the resumption of three-dimensional conformation, allowing the molecule to function normally. Denaturation of many proteins is irreversible, but denatured DNA molecules will renature readily under appropriate chemical and physical conditions.
