muniments

an old-fashioned term for documents that confer authorities, rights, or privileges, and they are used as evidence by which those authorities, rights, or privileges may be asserted, claimed, maintained, defended, and carried out. Examples include deeds, constitutions, charters, appointments to office, and certificates that endow people or institutions with titles, status, rights, authorities, or privileges.
