An environment or condition in which molecular oxygen is not available for chemical, physical or biological processes.

Life or biological processes that occur in the absence of oxygen.

Living or active in an airless environment.

A condition in which free (atmospheric) or dissolved oxygen is not present in water. The opposite of aerobic.

A life or process that occurs in, or is not destroyed by, the absence of oxygen.
